Maximum Performance in Dentistry
Greetings and welcome to our dental office. I am Ed Gonsky, a private practitioner in Boca Raton, Florida for more than 40 years. Over the course of time we have learned ...
The essential idea behind this lesson is that each individual, every patient needs to follow certain rules of behavior in order to have good dental health and overall well-being.
This lesson is about what we actually do in our office. It’s about treatment. Earlier, we’ve talked a lot about philosophy and we talked about what behaviors are expected from patients.
Today’s lesson concerns the doctor/patient relationship. As with so many important ideas, modern society has beaten down and diluted this fundamental human relationship as to make it unrecognizable.
In this lesson we’re going to take a fresh look at the magical process called healing. Every one of us possesses a natural ability to heal, to become well again. It happens naturally inside of our bodies. No doctor has ever healed anyone. We heal ourselves.
We need to talk about an old out-of-date map that is still being used to determine standard treatments of the gums. In this map, which is nearly a 100 years old and based on our knowledge from that long ago era, the disease changes in gum tissue are called defects.
For this lesson we look at providing exactly the right treatment to promote healing, the third and final principle of our practice. This is easier said than done. Learning the right treatments, along with when and how to do them takes years of practice and focused effort.
In this lesson, we are going to look at some big ideas, ideas that go beyond a dental office, that even go beyond the field of health care. We can call it a philosophy of well-being.
Focusing your mind, concentrating, “being in the moment” improves everything you think or do. Concentration is rightly called the mother of all skills. When your mind is focused, it becomes calm, quiet, and still. Through concentration anything becomes possible.
For this lesson we look at four ways to pay attention to your machinery. They are equal and discussed in no particular order. But every single one of them is essential for your biological machinery to function perfectly.
